As Cypriots we make a serious mistake. We think Kurds and Turks are the same. All too often we group them together. And that is exactly what Turkey wants us to think. If only we cared to learn more we would recognize that the only way to bring some sense into to Turkey is to remind her of her failure to sort out her so-called Kurdish issue or to put it better, Kurds' Turkeyish issue. The more we understand what Kurds are trying to do, the better we can align our interests with the interests of Kurds. The result may be a win-win-win one. Read what another Kurd has to say: "Well done, Turkey has never wanted peace nor never even once indicated to anyone that they did.There has never been one single ceasefire by the Turkish state to match any of the numerous ceasefires of the PKK. There was no agreement to Ocalan's Peace Council proposal, has there? None! Turkey is seemingly not interested nor has never been interested in resolving the Kurdish issue by peaceful political means, this is the heart of the problem. Chronic lack of political leadership has resulted in this sad situation. Kurds celebrated an historic election victory only months ago but even as they celebrated they were attacked with grenades and gas! That was a portent of things to come. There elected MP's were banned from entering parliamet and provocation after provocation followed. The humiliation of the Kurds complete once again. Over 50 young Kurdish lives of volunteers in the PKK have been lost this year with the Turkish military relentlessly bombing and pursuing the Kurdish fighters while they were on ceasefire. Who are the real culprits in this situation. It is easy to throw blame during the nationalist outcry and jump on the bandwagon but it is Turkey's political leadership that have choosen this path. All the rest is propoganda and an attempt to blame the oppressed for the actions of the oppressor and by so doing jusitfy your actions against them. And so the pathetic cycle goes on!
